Driver pins victim, 74, between cars
A 74-year-old Honolulu woman was critically injured Tuesday after she was pinned between two vehicles at McKinley Car Wash on Kapiolani Boulevard.
Police said a 48-year-old Honolulu man was driving his 2004 Acura into the vacuuming area of the carwash at 1139 Kapiolani Blvd. when he accelerated forward and hit the woman, who was securing items in the back of a 2011 Mercedes Crossover car. The woman was pinned between the vehicles and sustained massive injuries to her leg at about 11:45 a.m., police said.
She was taken to a hospital in serious condition but was later downgraded to critical condition.
Speed cited in injurious single-car crash
A 21-year-old Waianae woman was critically injured Monday night in a one-car crash near Makua Beach Park.
Police said the woman was driving a Honda sedan west on Farrington Highway at about 10 p.m. when the car went out of control about a third of a mile east of Kaena Point Tracking Station Access Road. The car climbed up the grassy shoulder, hit a boulder and went airborne, police said. It landed back on the road, flipped onto its roof and came to rest.
Emergency medical personnel took the woman to the Queen’s Medical Center in critical condition.
Police said excessive speed appears to have been a factor.
Firefighters cleared debris that landed on the roadway as a result of the crash. Police reopened the highway at 2:40 a.m.
Abuse, threats culminate in man’s arrest
Police arrested a 49-year-old man who allegedly abused, threatened, assaulted or kidnapped his 51-year-old girlfriend three times in the past two months.
On June 8 the man allegedly punched and choked the woman, threatened to kill her and held her against her will, police said.
On June 9 the man allegedly grabbed the woman by the neck, dragged her and threatened to kill her while holding a screwdriver to her neck.
On Saturday the man allegedly hit the woman with a rock and damaged her car, police said.
Police found him Monday and arrested him on suspicion of kidnapping, felony abuse of a household member, second-degree terroristic threatening, first-degree terroristic threatening, abuse of a household member, second-degree assault and fourth-degree criminal property damage.
Baseball bat used in 3 a.m. attack
Police arrested a 53-year-old Makiki man Monday for allegedly attacking a man with a baseball bat in Waikiki.
The two men were arguing when the suspect hit a 22-year-old man with a bat at 3 a.m., police said. Police arrested the Makiki man for investigation of third-degree assault near 2425 Kuhio Ave. Police did not release information about injuries to the victim.
