BRITISH OPEN
» First round: 11 p.m. today to 9 a.m. Thursday, ESPN » Second round: 11 p.m. Thursday to 9 a.m. Friday, ESPN » Third round: 1 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. Saturday, ESPN » Fourth round: Midnight to 7:30 a.m. Sunday, ESPN » Extra/recap coverage: 9 a.m. Saturday and Sunday, ABC |
In a change from previous years, ESPN will show live the complete Open Championship from Thursday through Sunday. The Star-Advertiser reported on Tuesday that weekend coverage of the Open would shift to ABC at 9 a.m. — putting local viewership in jeopardy because of Oceanic Time Warner Cable’s ongoing blackout of KITV due to a contract dispute with parent company Hearst Television.
But the 9 a.m. show on KITV/ABC on Saturday and Sunday — The Open Championship Today — will be a 3-hour highlight package of that morning’s round. To watch the major live, you’ll have to stay up … or record ESPN. Saturday’s live ESPN action begins at 1 a.m. and ends at 8:30. Sunday’s round goes from midnight until 7:30 a.m.
Coverage of Thursday’s and Friday’s rounds will be exclusively on ESPN, starting locally the night before, at 11 p.m.
“I’m so happy for Hawaii’s golf fans, that as far as a live broadcast goes, there is no passing of the baton between network and network,” KITV sports director Robert Kekaula said. “All four rounds to see who gets to hoist the claret jug will be shown in Hawaii.”
Internet streaming will also be available on ESPN3.
