Nordstrom sale offers a head start on fall fashion
Why wait for the next end-of-season sale when you can shop for fall early, beating East Coast fashionistas in wearing the latest styles all season long?
Nordstrom is starting its anniversary sale beginning 8 a.m. Friday, with fall’s hottest trend items priced at about 50 percent to 60 percent off regular-season prices through Aug. 5. For instance, Burberry check flats for fall are marked down to $199 from $325. Prices will go back up to normal Aug. 6.
In the cosmetics department, a number of exclusive items are being offered as part of the anniversary sale, including Dior’s A Purple Revolution Anniversary Color Collection eye shadow palette ($48) and Les Violets Hypnotiques nail enamels ($23 each), and M.A.C Illustrated bags and kits by London-based artist Julie Verhoeven.
Those paying with a Nordstrom credit or debit card are being granted early access to shop today, inside curtained sections within departments, including men’s, children’s, handbags, shoes, accessories, designer and beauty. Also included are such popular brands as Marc Jacobs, Rag & Bone, Michael Kors, Stuart Weitzman, Rebecca Minkoff, Boss Black, Diesel and Kate Spade.
The curtains come down Friday for all shoppers.
Admire rare sparklers at Opal Fields
Opal Fields is hosting a “Magnificent Gem Event” during store hours Friday through Tuesday. On view will be a collection of rare gems the retailer claims are on par with gems on permanent display in the Smithsonian National Gem Collection.
Gems to be shown include alexandrite, paraiba tourmaline, Santa Maria aquamarine, padparadscha sapphire, demantoid garnet, rare peridots, star sapphire and more.
A champagne reception will take place from 6 p.m. to closing Saturday, when guests can enter to win a $500 shopping spree. The drawing will be at 8 p.m., and you must be present to win.

Store showcases Monique Lhuillier designs
Casablanca Bridal & Formals will host a trunk show featuring Bliss by Monique Lhuillier, exclusive to the salon. The complete collection will be available for viewing and to try on from 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.
The collection encompasses such Lhuillier signatures as hand-tufting, delicate embellishment and fine laces combining romance with a fresh, playful edge. Gowns are priced from $2,800 and up.
