More than 100 people attended the launch of Kana'iolowalu Friday evening in a ceremony at Washington Place. The yearlong campaign, which stems from the Native Hawaiian Roll Commission, seeks to create a registry of Native Hawaiians both in Hawaii and abroad who can participate in the formation of a sovereign government. Among the first to sign were Mahealani Wendt, a commission member representing Maui Nui a Kama, left, Lt. Gov. Brian Schatz and Gov. Neil Abercrombie.
