Youth’s recipe earns her trip to White House

A Honolulu girl will represent Hawaii at the White House dinner table Aug. 20 when she dines with Michelle Obama and 53 other winners of the first lady’s "Healthy Lunchtime Challenge."

Stefani Shimomura-Sakamoto, 11, submitted her "Scrumptious Salmon Salad" recipe for the nationwide challenge, posed to U.S. children ages 8 to 12. The winners will attend a kids’ "State Dinner" and join the first lady for lunch, then tour the White House garden.

The contest is part of Obama’s Let’s Move! initiative.
