Reading feat gets teens a fete
Twenty-four teenagers who won drawings at their respective public library branches will be honored and compete for a chance to win the grand prize of a Kindle Fire and other tech gadgets at the 2012 Hawaii State Public Library System and Hawaii Pizza Hut Teen Summer Reading Program Finale from 11 a.m. to noon Saturday at Kahala Mall Center Court Stage.
Every summer, about 3,000 teens statewide participate in the annual summer program, collectively reading about 20,000 books. This year’s five-week program ran from June 4 to July 7.
Radio personality Lina Girl of KCCN-FM 100 will emcee Saturday’s event and ukulele musicians Nick Acosta and Nelly Toyama-Baduria of Roy Sakuma Productions Inc. will perform.
Waimanalo hosts country fair
The 7th annual Waimanalo Country Fair will offer a taste of country living Aug. 3-5.
Local food, Hawaiian crafts, hula, music and entertainment will fill the fields at Waimanalo Beach Park, 41-741 Kalanianaole Highway, along with rides by E.K. Fernandez and a circus show featuring the Maltese Family.
The fair takes place from 6 p.m. to midnight Aug. 3, noon to midnight Aug. 4 and noon to 10 p.m. Aug. 5.
E.K. Fernandez will be offering 10-ride wristbands for $25, available for purchase from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Parking and admission to the fair are free.
