'SINGIN'' REIGNS AT DHT | 1. Visiting guest star Sean Quinn (Don Lockwood), center, celebrated the opening of Diamond Head Theatre's summer production of "Singin' in the Rain" July 20 with cast members Kyle Malis (Cosmo Brown), Marcela Biven (Kathy Selden), Ahnya Chang (Lina Lamont) and Dennis Proulx (R.F. Simpson) at the post-show cast party at Uncle Bo's in Kapahulu. Quinn leads a strong cast in an excellent revival of the classic Broadway musical, and because this is his first show in Hawaii, he was fascinated by the many variety of lei he received on opening night.

5. Guest pianist Betty Loo Taylor, third from left, talked with Wendy Loh, left, Ann McCormick and Don Stroud after the concert. Taylor attended the party as a guest but answered the call when Leed asked whether she would mind sitting in for a song or two.

A DREAM COMES TRUE FOR MELVEEN LEED | 4. Melveen Leed, center, opened a new chapter in her career with the long-awaited release of "I Wish You Love," her first full-length jazz album, July 18 at the Ala Moana Hotel. Michael Green, left, his wife, Estelle Green, and Leilani Keough and husband Ed Keough were among the friends who joined Leed for a seven-course Chinese dinner and then enjoyed her intimate 90-minute concert, which featured the songs on the album.

'LOVE, LOSS ...' WILL LAST LONGER | 3. Manoa Valley Theatre cast members Lauren Murata, left, Lisa Barnes, Victoria Gail-White, Stacy Ray and Bree Bumatai came out to meet the audience after the MVT Studio Series production of "Love, Loss, and What I Wore" earned an opening-night standing ovation July 16. So many men as well as women have enjoyed the witty and sometimes poignant contemporary comedy that the run has been extended through Wednesday.

2. Sheraton Waikiki banquet maitre d' Jeff Lee, third from left, was dressed for "serving in the rain" as he talked with DHT board member Dr. John Magauran, left, Uli Cutter and DHT Artistic Director John Rampage at the pre-show sponsors' reception outside the theater. Sheraton Waikiki catered the reception, and Lee and his serving staff wore yellow raincoats in tribute to the big rain scene that closes the show.
