A 37-year-old Mililani felon was charged Saturday with firing a gun and forcing his way into a home while trying to run from police Thursday in Waipio.
Lance L.H. Yurong is being held at the main police cellblock in lieu of $500,000 bail.
Police said officers were sent to a self-storage business on Ka Uka Boulevard about 12:20 p.m. Thursday after receiving a CrimeStoppers tip about a man who was wanted for a recycling center robbery on July 5.
Yurong was in a stolen car when officers arrived and tried to drive off, but he hit a wall, police said.
Yurong then ran into a neighborhood across the street and forced his way into a house on Mele Place where a 56-year-old woman and her 27-year-old son were home, police said. The residents managed to escape without injuries.
Police said witnesses heard the suspect fire a gun before leaving the house. He then ran across Waipio Uka Street and jumped into a maintenance van parked at a town house complex. A witness said the man was trying to start the van when officers with guns drawn surrounded him and forced him to surrender.
Detectives found a handgun in the yard next to the house that was broken into and a loaded magazine and a spent casing.
Yurong was charged at 3:45 a.m. Saturday with first-degree burglary, driving a stolen vehicle, three firearm offenses, attempted unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle, breaking into a vehicle, and four drug counts.
He has three felony convictions for driving a stolen vehicle and two robberies.
