Inmate faces charges of sexual assault
A 51-year-old inmate was arrested Tuesday for allegedly sexually assaulting another man at Halawa Correctional Facility.
Police said a 31-year-old man reported that he was sexually assaulted about 6:45 a.m. July 1.
Police arrested the alleged assailant at the prison at 12:05 p.m. Tuesday for investigation of first- and third-degree sexual assault. Charges are pending.
The alleged assailant is being held at the facility for theft and other convictions.
Clash leads to ukulele bashing, police say
A 58-year-old Punchbowl man was arrested Tuesday after he beat his roommate with an ukulele, police said.
Police said the two men were arguing inside their apartment about 7:30 a.m. when the man hit his 56-year-old roommate with the musical instrument, causing substantial injuries.
Officers arrested the older man at the Frear Street apartment for investigation of second-degree assault.
Drowning victim ID’d as Japanese tourist
A 64-year-old Japanese visitor drowned Monday after he was found unresponsive in the ocean fronting Kuhio Beach Park, authorities said.
The Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office identified the man as Mitsushiro Yamashita of Tokyo and determined he drowned in an accident.
Police said Yamashita, who had been swimming, was pulled from the water unresponsive and taken to the hospital where he died.
