Hawaii coffee growers and their specialty coffees will be in the limelight Aug. 21-26 at “The Art of Hawaiian Coffee,” a series of activities, demonstrations, displays and competitions.
Hawaii is the only state that grows coffee, and 13 growers from the industry are taking part. They include Aikane Plantation Coffee Co. (from Kau), Coffees of Hawaii (Molokai), Epicurean (Kona), Honolulu Coffee Co., Javaloha (Hamakua), Kona Coffee and Tea, Kona Joe, Maui Grown, Rusty’s (Kau), Pavaraga (Hawaii island), Rising Sun (Kau), Royal Kona and UCC Hawaii (Kona).
All events are free at DFS Galleria Waikiki, 330 Royal Hawaiian Ave. Call 931-2700. Events include:
» Free coffee sampling, twice daily, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 7 to 10 p.m.
» “History of Hawaiian Coffee” exhibit, on display throughout the event.
» “Little Chef” activity for kids, daily from 7 to 10 p.m.
» World Record Mosaic Coffee Art exhibit, 1 to 4 p.m. Aug. 23.
» Baristas’ Latte Art contest, a timed competition with celebrity judges, 2 to 8 p.m. Aug. 25.
