Motorist accused of DUI in fatal crash
Alcohol and speed appear to be factors in a crash that killed an 18-year-old Mililani man Saturday morning in Kunia, police said.
The Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office identified the victim as Orlando Vallejo Jr. of Mililani.
Police said Vallejo was standing outside a vehicle at about 12:45 a.m. when he was struck by a vehicle driven by a 20-year-old Honolulu man, who was possibly speeding on Kupuna Loop near Kahakea Street in Kunia.
Vallejo was taken to the hospital in serious condition but later died, police said.
The driver was arrested for investigation of driving under the influence and first-degree negligent injury.
The crash was the 43rd traffic fatality on Oahu this year compared with 34 at this time last year.
