‘Tip a Cop’ aids special athletes
Honolulu’s finest will once again support Special Olympics Hawaii at the 22nd annual "Tip a Cop" event.
From 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday and Friday at Ward Centers restaurants, volunteer officers will be waiting on and busing tables at such venues as Dave & Buster’s, Kincaid’s, Ryan’s Grill, The Old Spaghetti Factory and Wahoo’s Fish Taco.
Big City Diner locations will participate during breakfast, lunch and dinner on Thursday; and at breakfast and lunch on Friday.

Church offers takeout luau
United Church of Christ holds its 56th annual benefit takeout luau from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday.
The 11-course meal includes kalua pig, lomi salmon, chicken long rice, poi, raw fish, opihi, ogo, sweet potato, pineapple, haupia and kulolo.
Tickets are now on sale. Cost is $24, with $6 tax-deductible. A drive-through pickup station will be open in the church parking lot, at 467 N. Judd St.
Part of the proceeds benefit Good News Jail & Prison Ministry and Lanakila Meals on Wheels.

Get meal, snack ideas for kids
Castle Medical Center is presenting a class for families Aug. 29 that spotlights "Kid-Friendly Lunches and Snacks."
The session will include lunch and snack ideas, which will be prepared and served in Castle’s Wellness Center auditorium.
The class runs 6:30 to 8 p.m. Cost is $15, $20 couples and $10 seniors and students.

Kaanapali hosts 3 days of events
Kaanapali Beach Resort on Maui will present its first "Kaanapali Fresh," a three-day event Aug. 31 to Sept. 2.
Food-related happenings include a tasting tour of the resort’s restaurants (6-10 p.m. Aug. 31, $69), a farmers market (7 a.m.-noon Sept. 1), a tour of a coffee farm (9 a.m.-noon Sept. 1, $47), a food and wine festival (6-10 p.m. Sept. 1, $150) and a cocktail event (2-4 p.m. Sept. 2, $25). Some activities Sept. 2 will benefit the Maui Food Bank. Cost for all events is $395.
