The Oahu Shockers punched their ticket to the playoffs of the Cal Ripken World Series with a no-hitter on Wednesday in Aberdeen, Md.
Ryne Aniya and Trevor Ichimura combined to hold Little Rock (Ark.) without a hit over six innings in a 6-0 win to finish pool play 3-1.
Oahu finished tied with two other teams atop the American Division but was awarded the No. 1 seed due to a tiebreaker based on runs allowed.
After losing the opening game of the tournament, the Shockers have won their last three games by a combined score of 32-4.
“Our pitchers have been working really well and done pretty good,” head coach Gary Ichimura said. “Ryne did a great job today.”
Aniya earned the win, pitching five innings, walking one and striking out five. Trevor Ichimura finished the game by retiring all three batters he faced in the sixth.
Shea Yamaguchi went 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored and Ryne Oshiro hit two doubles.
Oshiro’s RBI double capped a three-run first inning as the Shockers got out to an early lead.
Jarron Carter added a two-run single in the sixth to put the Shockers ahead 6-0.
Oahu, the Pacific Southwest regional champions, will play Middle Atlantic at 2 p.m. on Friday in the U.S. semifinal round.
“This is the goal to get here,” Gary Ichimura said. “Now we’ve just got to take care of business and hopefully things will fall our way.”
The U.S. and International championship games will be broadcast on the CBS Sports Network on Saturday, followed by the world title game on Sunday.
