Event benefits SNAP-EBT cardholders
The People’s Open Market at Kalihi Valley District Park will host a celebration Saturday highlighting the availability of its fruits and vegetables to customers who utilize SNAP-EBT cards (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program-Electronic Benefits Transfer).
From 9:30 to 10:45 a.m., customers using their SNAP-EBT cards can double their purchase power with a $15 minimum purchase of fresh local produce.
The celebration will also include demonstrations, samples, giveaways, gardening workshops and sign-ups for SNAP benefits. Call 497-1346.
Cooking demo will feature kampachi
Chef Roy Yamaguchi will prepare Hawaiian Kampachi Tataki during a cooking demonstration at Foodland Farms in Aina Haina at noon Saturday.
The demo highlights kampachi (Hawaiian yellowtail) raised in ocean pens at Blue Ocean Mariculture near Kona. Samples and a copy of the recipe will be available.
A representative from Blue Ocean will be in house as well to discuss the product. Call 373-2222.
