Hawaii island man charged with threatening neighbors with machete
Hawaii County police have charged a 64-year-old Glenwood man, who allegedly threatened neighbors with a machete then barricaded himself inside his Puna house for more than 18 hours.
Dasa Sivam was charged Wednesday with criminal trespassing, promoting a detrimental drug and two counts of first-degree teroristic threatening.
Puna patrol officers responded to a 10:22 a.m. report Monday of a man threatening his neighbors with a machete on Kokokahi Road in the Fern Forest subdivision.
The man then barricaded himself inside the house, allegedly claiming he had a large machine gun.
Police negotiated with Sivam, who came out of the house shortly before 5 a.m. Tuesday and arrested him on suspicion of terroristic threatening.
