Man hospitalized after near-drowning
A 58-year-old man nearly drowned Saturday morning off Duke’s Waikiki, according to an Emergency Medical Services supervisor.
The near-drowning occurred during the annual Duke’s OceanFest watersports competition.
Personnel hired as safety by the event organizers initially pulled the man from the water and turned over care to lifeguards, an Ocean Safety Division official said, adding that he had been resuscitated.
The man was transported by ambulance at about 10:30 a.m. in critical condition to a nearby hospital.
