Aloha Festivals at Eat the Street
Eat the Street’s monthly food truck rally Friday at 555 South St. will highlight Aloha Festivals, featuring poi pounder Daniel Anthony, hula and sales of Aloha Festival power bands, ribbons and T-shirts. The rally runs 4 to 9 p.m.
Throughout the event, participating trucks will offer discounts to diners with power bands or ribbons, and discounts will continue at Eat the Street events in Mililani (Sept. 15) and Kakaako (Sept. 28). Visit streetgrindz.com/eatthestreet.
Madre offers tours, tastings
Madre Chocolate is holding its monthly pau hana event Friday and cacao farm and factory tours in September and October.
Every last Friday of the month, the Kailua shop hosts visitors who will taste new single-origin chocolates as well as samples of bars that include new ingredients such as jaboticaba and calamansi lime. The event runs 4:30 to 6 p.m. Friday at the shop, at 20-A Kainehe St.
Registration is open for the cacao farm and chocolate factory tours, which are slated for 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Sept. 6 and 16, and Oct. 7. Cost is $40.

Entrants sought in poke contest
Poke chefs from both home and professional kitchens can enter Waikoloa Beach Marriott Resort & Spa’s annual poke contest.
The Sept. 8 competition features four categories: traditional, shoyu, limu and cooked. Entry fee is $10. Get there early: the first 40 entrants will be provided with raw fish. Call 937-4896.

Hilo Farmers Market was deemed one of the nation’s best by the Mother Nature Network.
