Injuries to girlfriend prompt man’s arrest
A 30-year-old Waianae man faces criminal charges after he threw ceramic dishes at his girlfriend, causing a cut that needed stitches.
Police said the pair were arguing on July 23 when the suspect began throwing dishes at his girlfriend.
Police said one of the dishes hit the arm of the 18-year-old woman, causing a deep cut.
The man was arrested Thursday on suspicion of second-degree assault.
Witness helps police catch suspect in theft
A witness helped put a 26-year-old Nuuanu woman behind bars after the suspect allegedly stole cash from a 75-year-old man who was sitting at a bus stop in Chinatown Thursday night.
Police said the suspect allegedly took the cash from the pocket of the older man at 5:50 p.m. and fled.
However, police said a witness intervened and officers apprehended the suspect 30 minutes later on Fort Street Mall near a department store.
Police arrested the suspect on suspicion of second-degree theft.
Possible robbery accomplice being held
A 38-year-old Mililani man in custody is suspected of taking part in a robbery in Aiea earlier this month.
Two men entered an Aiea store on Aug. 14 demanding money. The suspect watched as his partner assaulted a 54-year-old man.
The suspect was later identified and arrested on suspicion of second-degree robbery Thursday night.
The other suspect is still at large.

Woman, 93, and her dog escape fire
An early morning fire at a Wailuku apartment caused $2,000 in damage and left a 93-year-old woman and her dog without a home.
Neighbors woke up the woman who was sleeping in the apartment and helped her and the dog to safety, a Fire Department spokesman said.
Maui firefighters responded to the 3:41 a.m call at 1090 Eha St. and found the entrance to one of the units on fire. The fire was brought under control at 3:55 a.m. and extinguished at 4:43 a.m. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Downed poles cause blackout in Waimea
Four utility poles fell in Waimea town on Kauai Friday, prompting officials to shut down power to area residences and businesses while the poles were replaced.
The Waimea Road poles, owned by Kauai Island Utility Cooperative, fell about 10 a.m. One struck a car, injuring the driver. Spokeswoman Shelley Paik said the extent of the driver’s injuries were not known. He was treated at Kauai Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waimea.
Power was shut down to 100 customers. Officials hoped to restore power Friday night. The cause of the downed poles is under investigation.
Visitor injured in fall on trail
A 46-year-old female visitor fell and broke her arm while hiking down the trail leading to Queen’s Bath in Hanalei, Kauai, Thursday afternoon.
The Happy Valley, Ore., woman also suffered minor injuries in the fall about 3:30 p.m.
Firefighters responded to the scene and assisted the woman back up the trail, and paramedics then transported her to Wilcox Hospital.
