A Hawaii mansion known for a connection with the TV show “Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous” is for sale again after several unsuccessful attempts dating back to 2006.
The home built by late TV producer Al Masini, whose creations included “Lifestyles,” was recently put on the market for $12.5 million by a Taiwanese plastics company that has owned the property atop Hawaii Loa Ridge in East Honolulu for about 11 years.
Tai Lung Plastic Industrial Co. tried selling the mansion four times between 2006 and 2009 for $13 million but didn’t receive what was described as the right offer at the right price.
The company, which has employed a variety of brokers, also tried selling the home for $11.5 million in 2010 and $9.8 million last year.
The city, for property tax purposes, values the residence at $5.2 million.
Tai Lung paid $9.4 million in 2001, according to property records.
The home at 1133 Ikena Circle on a 30,000-square-foot parcel features 9,416 square feet of interior living space and 5,700 square feet of palatial outdoor living space with 270-degree views from the mountains overlooking the sea.
Current listing brokerage Sachi Hawaii said the seller recently gave a face-lift to the home described as “modern Mediterranean meets 18th-century French architecture.”
Details include a foyer framing a floor-to-ceiling view of Diamond Head, French hand-embroidered silk draperies mirroring those in the White House, an indoor marble fountain, a pool with a waterfall and an 8-foot 24K gold and Austrian crystal chandelier. There are four bedrooms, five bathrooms and two partial bathrooms.
The home also includes museum-quality original artwork collected by Masini, who died in 2010 at age 80.
Masini inspired nearly three dozen Emmy-winning shows including “Entertainment Tonight,” “Star Search” and “Solid Gold.” He moved to Hawaii in the mid-1990s after retiring, and in 1996 built the home he named Hi‘ilani, meaning “in the arms of heaven.”
Sachi Hawaii said Masini used his expertise in producing hit shows in the design of the home, giving unparalleled attention to detail and making it perfect for the rich and famous.
