Water breaks don’t come cheap
Wednesday was like a holiday for some school kids on the Windward side, thanks to a huge water main break that occurred late Tuesday in Kaneohe.
For others in the area, it was a reminder that mishaps involving Oahu’s infrastructure have broad personal and economic ramifications, and must not be taken lightly.
The break affected an unknown number of residential customers — for whom the inconveniences must have been many — plus Windward Community College, Hawaii Pacific University’s Hawaii Loa campus, Kaneohe Elementary School and Ke Kula o Samuel M. Kamakau public charter school. All were closed for the day, as was the Kaneohe District Court, which had to reschedule many court appearances, undoubtedly imposing many more personal and economic hardships.
UH, Chaminade heart Molokai
College basketball will pay a visit to Molokai in the upcoming season when Chaminade faces Hawaii’s Rainbow Warriors at The Barn — the 2,000-seat gym at Hoolehua.
UH Assistant Coach Brandyn Akana says the Dec. 15 match will be the first regular-season college basketball game on his native island since Chaminade played Cal State-L.A. in 1984. Akana says it is "a dream come true for me to go back home" and "show the fans what true college basketball is all about."
It will be UH’s first regular-season game in any sport on Molokai. Hawaii has played basketball on Maui and Hawaii island in the last two years, so the Molokai event will continue its statewide tour.
