Xerox Corp. is ramping up its Hawaii call center operations, hiring 100 full-time customer service representatives in Honolulu over the next few months.
Most of the positions — approximately 70 — are temporary and part of a short-term project that involves health insurance enrollment for national and international customers through December, according to Xerox spokesman Bill McKee.
Xerox, based in Norwalk, Conn., will start hiring in mid-September and continue through mid-November, offering competitive salaries and a full range of benefits, the company said Monday.
“Many times during the fall, employers offer employees a chance to sign up for health care, so there’s a great deal of information that needs to be disseminated and questions that need to be answered so that employees can sign up for health care,” McKee said. “We do ramp up in most of our call center areas during certain times of the year.”
Xerox operates technical support and customer care call centers worldwide for a variety of customers, including wireless providers and the health care industry.
In 2010, Xerox acquired Affiliated Computer Services Inc. for $6.4 billion, extending the copier and printing company into business process and information technology outsourcing for commercial and government organizations.
The company has 250 employees in Hawaii primarily for its traditional copier and printer business.
More than half of Xerox’s $23 billion in annual sales comes from services such as call centers.
“During times of a tight economy, many companies turn to Xerox to provide a cost-efficient way to service their customers, and we look for opportunities to expand those customer operations where we can find high-quality employees,” McKee said. “Honolulu is one of those locations.”
Hawaii’s employment numbers have remained steady over the past few months. The state’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 6.4 percent in July, the same as in June.
