Farmers markets adding more days and services
Oahu farmers markets are expanding their reach and services. Here are a few updates:
» Ala Moana Farmers’ Market, which has been held Saturdays, is expanding to include a Tuesday market that will run 4 to 7 p.m. starting Tuesday. The second-level parking site near Sears will house more than 50 booths of local products and a 70-seat dine-in space.
» Wahiawa Farmers’ Market will begin accepting EBT cards on Thursday. The market, which runs 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Thursdays at Wahiawa Hongwanji, 1067 California Ave., includes products from Wahiawa establishments such as Marian’s Catering, Marilou’s Filipino Restaurant and Honda Tofu, and items such as lilikoi jelly and poi from Leilehua High School’s Agricultural Learning Center.
» Hawaii Farm Bureau Federation’s Tuesday pilot market is now permanent. Shoppers can continue to visit Kapiolani Community College from 4 to 7 p.m. along Diamond Head Road behind the city bus stop in the grassy area. (Saturday’s market continues in its usual location.)
» The Wednesday Farmer’s Market by Nalo Farms at Windward Mall now includes a Give It Fresh Today booth where shoppers can donate some of their purchases to organizations that feed the hungry. Gardeners are also invited to share seeds and bounty from their gardens. The market runs 2:30 to 7:30 p.m.
