Man allegedly assaults child with pan
Police and state Child Welfare Services officials are investigating a case in which a man allegedly threw a frying pan at a 6-year-old boy, causing him to suffer a fracture.
The suspect, 38, and the boy live in the same Kalihi home. Police arrested the man on suspicion of second-degree assault following the incident on Monday at 7 p.m., but released him pending further investigation.
The boy was taken to a hospital for treatment and released.
No other information was available on the extent of the child’s injuries or what triggered the incident.
Kailua-Kona man arrested in escape
A 31-year-old Kailua-Kona man wanted for allegedly escaping from a correctional facility was arrested in West Hawaii and charged.
Ryan Jeffries-Hamar was arrested Saturday in Kealakekua near Highway 11 and Halekii Street. He is suspected of escaping from the Hale Nani transitional facility off Route 11 on Aug. 14.
Jeffries-Hamar was also arrested on an outstanding warrant for violation of terms and conditions of furlough.
Jeffries-Hamar was charged Sunday with second-degree escape. Bail was set at $10,000.
Police await ID of body found on Maui
Maui police said the body found at the base of a rocky cliff is believed to be of a woman recently reported missing.
Alexandra Dunyasheva was reported missing by a friend Saturday. She was last seen two days before walking at the top of the property where she lives in Wailuku.
Police said crew members conducting an aerial search of the coastline in the Kalepa Gulch area on Sunday spotted a body at the base of a 100-foot rocky cliff.
Police said the body matches Dunyasheva’s description. Positive identification is pending.
Suspects held after Wahiawa robbery
Police arrested two men and a woman who allegedly robbed a 31-year-old man at a gas station in Wahiawa, then went back and stole the victim’s wallet from his car when he went into a convenience store to report the crime.
Police said two 23-year-old men approached the victim at about 4:50 p.m. Saturday, threatened him and demanded money. He gave them cash.
But when he went in to a minimart to report the crime, police said a 25-year-old woman went into the victim’s car and stole his wallet.
Police located the suspects in a vehicle a short distance away. Police said one of the suspects had the victim’s bank card when they were arrested for investigation of second-degree robbery, theft and outstanding warrants.
