No one hurt in ‘Sugar Cane’ train-car crash
A Lahaina "Sugar Cane" train collided with a 2001 Honda sedan Monday, but no one was injured and both the train and the car sustained only minor damage, police said.
Police said a Lahaina man was turning right near the intersection of Honoapiilani Highway and Puukolii Road, and apparently failed to look left at the oncoming train before driving into its path, police said.
The train, which travels through the cane fields from Lahaina to Kaanapali, had already been slowing down.
The accident occurred at about 4:35 p.m. The train was traveling in the Honokowai direction. According to the police report, all the train’s signals were working.
