Beware coqui frog singing going viral
The coqui frog feature is the high-profile addition to the city’s Honolulu 311 app, a program smartphone users can run to report a multitude of municipal ills to City Hall. Sending in a recording of a chirp suspected to come from the invasive frog species is one way experts can more easily weed out the false alarms.
Now that we’ve gone all high-tech with this, more possibilities come to mind. Once you make the recording, couldn’t that become your phone’s ringtone?
That could drive the ag inspectors crazy, of course. "Hello, there’s a coqui frog in my office! Oh, wait, it’s just my co-worker’s phone going off again … "
