Outdoor Circle founder Cherilla Lowrey and two friends from Honolulu were so inspired by the beauty of the garden of Versailles, France, during a trip in 1911 that they decided to start a beautification group at home a year later. Actress Hanna Gaffney stands at Lowrey's grave.
