Roommate accused in Wahiawa stabbing
A 38-year-old Wahiawa man is facing a charge of second-degree attempted murder after he allegedly stabbed his roommate Sunday night.
Police said the incident happened at 8 p.m. in the Wahiawa home that the 45-year-old victim shares with the suspect.
The victim’s wife heard a commotion and entered a room to find her husband injured. The suspect fled from the home, but police found him an hour later and arrested him on suspicion of second-degree attempted murder.
The victim was taken to the Queen’s Medical Center in serious condition with stab wounds to his face, an Emergency Medical Services official said.
Toddler identified after apparent drowning
A 1-year-old boy who died after he apparently wandered into the ocean near Haleiwa on Saturday has been identified.
The Medical Examiner’s Office identified the apparent drowning victim Monday as Coby Trask.
The boy was found unresponsive at a beach off Ke Waena Road, near the Rock Piles surf spot, just before 6 p.m., Fire Department spokesman Capt. Carlton Yamada said. He was transferred to Kahuku Medical Center in extremely critical condition and pronounced dead at 7:22 p.m., police said.
Visitor swimming on Lanai is critically hurt
A 27-year-old man who hit his head while swimming on Lanai on Saturday was taken to a hospital in critical condition.
The visitor from Korea got into trouble at Hulopoe Beach Park, the Maui County Paramedics Association said. He dived into the water and apparently struck his head on the ocean floor. Others at the beach pulled him from the water when he did not surface.
Medical personnel said the man was short of breath and unable to move his arms or legs. He was taken to Lanai Hospital in critical condition and flown to the Queen’s Medical Center in Honolulu.
Gunshots fired from vehicle lead to arrest
A 21-year-old Waianae man is in custody after he allegedly fired a gun while parked at Waianae Boat Harbor on Sunday night.
The suspect was arrested at about 9:30 p.m. after an off-duty police officer at the park heard a gunshot and saw a car speeding away. As the vehicle drove off, the officer saw four shots fired from the vehicle. The officer notified police dispatch and followed the vehicle.
Police said the suspect vehicle turned onto Orange Street, where it lost control and hit a parked vehicle. The officer arrested the man as he exited the vehicle.
There were no reports of anyone injured from gunshots. The suspect was taken to a hospital for treatment after he complained of pain in his knee.
He was arrested on suspicion of a weapons violation. A firearm was recovered, police said.
Man allegedly chokes wife during spat
A 20-year-old Waipahu man was arrested Sunday after police said he allegedly choked his wife during an argument in their home.
Police said the incident occurred Saturday night. The suspect fled after his wife called police. The suspect was arrested Sunday night on suspicion of abuse of a family member.
