Florence advances to third round
Hawaii’s John John Florence advanced to today’s third round with a victory Monday in the Hurley Pro surf contest at Lower Trestles in San Clemente, Calif.
The 19-year-old Florence put up a 14.37 score in his second-round heat to outpoint wild-card Floridian Evan Geiselman (13.93).
Florence will take on Australia’s Yadin Nicol in today’s third round of the Association of Surfing Professionals World Tour contest, surf permitting. Hawaii’s Dusty Payne, who advanced on Sunday, drew Mick Fanning of Australia for his third-round heat.
Hawaii’s Fred Patacchia (15.90) was eliminated in his second-round heat, falling to Brazil’s Alejo Muniz (16.30).
