Like University of Hawaii quarterback Sean Schroeder, Warrior football fans are looking into different coverage each week, it seems.
In their first five games this season, the Warriors will be shown on five different outlets.
Saturday’s 4:30 p.m. Mountain West Conference opener with Nevada will mark UH’s debut on the rebranded NBC Sports Network (NBCSN).
NBCSN is available locally to Oceanic (channel 19/digital channel 210), DirecTV and Dish subscribers.
A spokesman said the network was "thrilled to have Hawaii." It will also show the Nov. 10 Boise State game.
The opener at USC was on Fox, the Lamar game was on Oceanic Time Warner pay-per-view. The Brigham Young game will be on ESPN and the San Diego State contest on CBS Sports Network (CBSSN).
Unlike UH’s former league home, the Western Athletic Conference, the MWC has parceled out 25 games among four entities, plus regional cable over a three tier system after folding its own regional carrier, The Mtn., in May. MWC members are expected to receive approximately $1 million each this season.
NBCSN is part of the NBC Sports Group along with the Golf Channel and has college football in addition to the NHL, MLS and IndyCar. After being known previously as Versus, the Outdoor Life Channel and OLN, NBCSN was rebranded in January in preparation for the London Olympic Games, where it carried a selection of events, including the U.S. women’s gold medal soccer match.
An NBCSN spokesman said the network is in "just under 90 million" homes and has agreements with three college conferences, the MWC, Ivy League and Colonial Athletic Association. It is competing with industry giant ESPN and fellow newcomer, CBSSN, for a share of the college football market.
"We’ve been very pleased with the viewer response to NBC Sports Network and its programming since we re-branded it at the beginning of the year," an NBCSN spokesman said. "We look forward to it continuing to serve sports fans as an important destination for sports news, information and live events."
Paul Burmeister, Rod Woodson and Anthony Herron will call Saturday’s game for NBCSN.
