Handgun theft suspect charged
A 29-year-old Waikiki man was charged with several weapons violations Tuesday after he was found hiding with a stolen handgun in the stairwell of a Kapalama business building complex.
Police said Stephen Rogers stole the gun from a Pau Street residence in Waikiki Sunday evening. A few hours later, police received a report of someone matching Rogers’ description carrying a handgun.
Officers found Rogers a few hours later in the 1000 block of Dillingham Boulevard. He was later positively identified by the witness and arrested at 8:22 p.m., police said.
Prosecutors charged Rogers with weapons and ammunition violations and first- and second-degree theft. His bail was set at $20,000.
Car critically injures woman
An 82-year-old woman remained in the hospital in critical condition Wednesday after a car pinned her against another car.
Police said a car was traveling north on Lehua Avenue in Pearl City on Tuesday and struck the woman as she was crossing near Fourth Street, pinning her against a stopped car, which was pushed into a third car. The woman, who was not in a crosswalk, was taken to a hospital in serious condition. Her condition later worsened.
Police arrested the driver of the car that hit her on suspicion of drunken driving and negligent injury.
Alcohol may have been a factor in the 11:30 a.m. crash, police said.
