UH softball team to host fall tourney
The University of Hawaii softball team will open its fall exhibition schedule in November by hosting the Preseason Paradise Classic.
UH, which opens fall practice Oct. 8, will face Chaminade and Kumamoto International College from Japan in the tournament set for Nov. 3-4 at Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium. The Rainbow Wahine will play their annual alumnae game Nov. 9 and close the fall with an intrasquad scrimmage on Kauai on Nov. 11. The Green vs. Black scrimmage will be held at Waimea Canyon Park and will be followed by a youth clinic. The cost of the clinic is $20. HPU, Fresno Pacific split in soccer
Alejandro Porras scored two goals, including the go-ahead tally at 83:24, and Heimana Chene had two assists as Hawaii Pacific beat Fresno Pacific 3-2 in a Pacific West Conference men’s soccer match Thursday at HPU’s Atherton Field. Porras scored at 3:16 off assists from Chene and Mael Lefebvre, and Keenan Ho made it 2-0 HPU at 24:05 off an assist from Chene. After Fresno Pacific tied it at 2-2, Porras scored after receiving a long cross from Truls Henrik Lystad. HPU improved to 4-3 and 4-0; Fresno Pacific dropped to 4-4, 2-3.
» Fresno Pacific (2-2-3, 2-1-2) scored three times in the final 24 minutes to beat HPU 3-1 in the women’s match. HPU (3-5, 2-2) scored first at 41:48 on Erika Ellis’ goal off an assist from Liana Gualdarama. Colleen Rooney (66:43), Caressa Archie (71:54) and Haley Tallon (87:38) scored for FPU.
Notre Dame de Namur sweeps Chaminade
Armando Garcia scored two goals as Notre Dame de Namur beat Chaminade 2-1 in a PacWest men’s soccer match Thursday at Saint Louis School field. Garcia scored in the 11th minute, with the Silverswords tying it on Paul Schloz’s goal off an assist from Jose Furman in the 46th. Garcia scored the go-ahead goal in the 69th. Notre Dame de Namur is 7-0-1 and 4-0-1; Chaminade is 1-4-1 and 1-2-1.
» Massiel Castellanos scored two goals and Adriana Cortes had two assists as Notre Dame de Namur beat Chaminade 5-1 in the women’s match. Chaminade’s Kristen Fujinaga scored off an assist from Twyla Hamasaki at 49:06 to tie the match at 1-1. Notre Dame de Namur is 3-5-1 and 2-2-1; Chaminade is 0-6 and 0-4.
