Assault victim is in critical condition
A 29-year-old man was in critical condition with head injuries after he was assaulted Thursday night and left unconscious on a sidewalk in Makakilo, police said.
At 8:45 p.m. police responded to a report of an unconscious man lying on a sidewalk in Makakilo. The victim was taken to the hospital in critical condition.
Homicide detectives are investigating the case.
4 teens arrested in attack on officers
Four people were arrested early Thursday morning after allegedly assaulting two police officers responding to a car break-in.
Police said officers were called to a vehicle break-in in progress at the Waianae Taco Bell parking lot at about 12:12 a.m. Thursday.
Arriving officers spotted a possible suspect walking away from the location of the call and detained a man, 19, for investigation.
The suspect’s brother, 16, allegedly assaulted the arresting officer, and as the officers were handcuffing the juvenile, the older brother tried to punch another officer.
Besides the two brothers, a 16-year-old boy and a 17-year-old girl were arrested for attempting to interfere.
Joint operation nets alleged counterfeiters
Seven people were arrested this week for counterfeiting, forgery and identification theft-related crimes as part of an ongoing joint interagency investigation called Operation "Pick ‘Em Up."
The interagency effort resulted in the indictment of eight individuals on 13 counts of forgery, criminal possession of a forgery device and accomplice to forgery. Six of the indicted individuals have been arrested. A seventh suspect was indicted and arrested for the counterfeit manufacturing and distribution of U.S. currency, Hawaii state safety emblems, automobile insurance cards and Hawaii state driver’s licenses.
The operation was conducted by the state Department of Public Safety’s Sheriff Division, U.S. Secret Service and U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency.
