Sydney Porter, 16, has been riding horses and participating in rodeos since she was just 3 years old.
This year the Kahuku High student has won four prizes and holds the Best All-Around Girls title and the Rodeo Queen crown.
"What I love the most is it’s me and my horse — we’re a team," she said. "I love being a team with my horse."
Watch Porter and dozens of others compete in the 20th annual statewide All-Girls Rodeo, which is part of the Ohana Country Fair today at Kualoa Ranch.
Rodeo fun begins at 8:30 a.m. with competitions such as barrel racing, breakaway roping, goat tying and team roping.
The fair also features food booths (chili, Kualoa beef, shave ice and popcorn), a farmers market, crafts, games, a petting zoo, keiki horse rides, hayrides and a classic car show.
Hayrides, new this year, begin at 10 a.m.
Rides on the mechanical bull start at 1 p.m., and the beer and wine garden opens at 2 p.m.
Festivities conclude at 4 p.m., followed by dinner at 5 p.m. and a screening of "Paniolo o Hawai‘i: Cowboys of the Far West" at 6:15 p.m.
Fair admission is $2, free for children 12 and under. Movie admission includes popcorn and is $5, $2 for children ages 3 to 12.
