Armed man robs Salt Lake McDonald’s

A man robbed the Salt Lake McDonald’s at gunpoint Saturday night through the restaurant’s drive-through window, police said.

A 17-year-old working at the window told police that the man with a gun walked up to the drive-through around 11:40 p.m. and demanded money.

Police said the suspect fled on foot with an unknown amount of cash.

Woman rescued from Maunawili trail

A city fire rescue crew helped a woman from the Mau­na­wili Falls trail late Sunday afternoon after she injured her ankle while hiking.

The crew hiked in to evaluate the woman, who was then flown out by helicopter, according to spokes­man Capt. Gary Lum.

Fall into Waiahole ravine injures man, 67

A 67-year-old man was taken to a local trauma center in serious condition Saturday morning after falling into a ravine in Wai­ahole Valley, according to Capt. Gary Lum, a Fire Department spokes­man.

The man lost his footing while trimming branches in his yard and fell shortly after 11 a.m., Lum said.

Rescue personnel hiked down to the man and put him in a helicopter basket, but heavy foliage prevented an airlift, he said.

Firefighters instead helped the man uphill to where they could turn him over for transport.

Traffic stop yields stolen motorcycle, drugs

A routine traffic stop in Pawaa yielded an unlicensed driver, a stolen motorcycle and a stash of illegal drugs early Sunday morning.

A police sergeant on patrol stopped a motorcyclist on Rycroft Street for an expired registration sticker. A check of the motorcycle’s license plate revealed that the vehicle had been stolen the previous day and that the operator did not have a driver’s license.

A subsequent search of the suspect turned up the illegal drugs.

The 44-year-old Hono­lulu man was arrested on suspicion of unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle, driving without a license and third-degree possession of dangerous drugs.

Police nab Waianae man in stolen van

A 20-year-old Wai­anae man was arrested Friday morning after police saw him driving a stolen van.

Officers also found a stolen mo-ped inside the van.

The suspect abandoned the van and was arrested in the Wai­anae area at 8:30 a.m. after a short foot chase, police said. The mo-ped was discovered when police searched the van. The man was arrested on suspicion of unauthorized control of a vehicle and second-degree theft.

Drowning victim near Portlock identified

The Honolulu medical examiner has identified the man who drowned near Spitting Caves on Saturday as 27-year-old Daniel Lowe of California.

Lowe was swimming Saturday afternoon near the caves off Portlock but was reportedly unable to climb out of the water and back onto the steep cliff nearby.

Ocean Safety personnel were notified and later found Lowe unresponsive about 30 yards offshore. He was taken to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
