Happy days are here again at KCC
The proverbial check in the mail finally arrived for 16 instructors in Kapiolani Community College’s continuing education program.
The teachers were owed money for noncredit courses they taught last year through earlier this year, with some of them being owed several thousand dollars each.
KCC Chancellor Leon Richards blamed employee turnover and mishandling of documents for the delay, and said actions have been taken to make sure the problem doesn’t happen again.
"It’s been a long time coming in terms of the problems, per se," said one of the instructors involved, who was owed about $3,000.
At least we know it wasn’t the fault of the U.S. Postal Service.
Another reason to visit the library
It’s great to see the Hawaii State Public Library System will be joining the ranks of libraries across the country that are adding a new facet to their age-old mission of delivering information: In the next year or so, public libraries will have free Wi-Fi.
The project — funded with a $582,000 grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and a local match of $388,000 — also will boost the number of public desktops to 758 for those lacking their own. But now people who bring their own laptops or other digital devices with them can get online wirelessly and access that great library of the ether, the World Wide Web.
Though Mr. and Mrs. Gates are the benefactors, it’s not a Windows-only universe; Mac lovers, you’re invited, too.
