» "The Monkey King — Uproar in Heaven" (Gala Presentation, 11:30 a.m.): Technicolor worked with the Shanghai Film Group and Shanghai Animation Film Studio to deliver a 3-D version of the award-winning 1965 Chinese film. The story is based on the earliest chapters of the classic story "Journey to the West" as the Monkey King rebels against the Jade Emperor of heaven.

» "Caesar Must Die" (EuroCinema Hawaii, 5 p.m., repeats 1 p.m. Tuesday): Directed by Italy’s heralded brother team of Paolo and Vittorio Taviani, the story revolves around inmates at a high-security prison in Rome preparing for a public performance of Shakespeare’s "Julius Caesar."

» "The Land of Eb" (Halekulani Golden Orchid Award Narrative Feature Nominee, 6:30 p.m., repeats 5:30 p.m. Oct. 21): In one of the poorest and most remote communities on Hawaii island, a hardworking Marshallese man uses a small video camera to document his and his peoples’ story after he finds out he has a fatal tumor in his stomach.

» "The Woodsman and the Rain" (Gala Presentation, 7:30 p.m., repeats 9:15 p.m. Tuesday): Japanese actor Koji Yakusho will receive the festival’s Career Achievement Award at today’s screening of his latest film, about a group of mountain villagers who are enlisted by a rookie movie director to help him and his crew with a film.

» "Room 237" (Halekulani Golden Orchid Award Documentary Feature Nominee, 9:15 p.m., repeats 8 p.m. Oct. 21): The film fuses fact and fiction through interviews with the fans and scholars who purport to see messages hidden in Stanley Kubrick’s "The Shining."
