Today’s highlights at the Hawaii International Film Festival:
» "A Royal Affair" (EuroCinema Hawaii, 6:15 p.m., repeats 3 p.m. Wednesday): An enlightened commoner finds an ideological ally and a lover in the queen, but they find out that their affair provides powerful ammunition for their enemies. This historical drama will be Denmark’s official entry for consideration in the Academy Awards’ Best Foreign Language Film category.

» "Starlet" (New American Filmmakers, 6:45 p.m., repeats 1:15 p.m. Saturday): An unlikely friendship forms between a young adult-film actress and an elderly widow after they find a hidden stash of money inside an object at the widow’s yard sale.
» "Jake Shimabukuro: Life on Four Strings" (Sound X Vision, 8 p.m., Hawaii Theatre; $20, $15 HIFF Ohana members): The ukulele superstar and special guests will be on hand to discuss and perform at the debut screening of the intimate documentary.
» "The Untold Story: Internment of Japanese Americans in Hawaii" (Made in Hawaii, 8:45 p.m.): Within 48 hours of Japan’s attack on Pearl Harbor, more than 1,800 men and women were arrested, detained and incarcerated in Hawaii. This is the first full-length documentary, assembled with interviews and re-enactments, to chronicle this story.
