"Quartet" (EuroCinema Hawaii, 6 p.m., repeat 4 p.m. Friday): Dustin Hoffman’s directorial debut takes place in a home for retired opera singers where, during the preparation for the annual "Verdi" gala, an elderly diva arrives and creates tension among the home’s residents. Tom Courtenay, Billy Connolly, Pauline Collins and Maggie Smith star.
"Lucky" (Film for Thought, 6:15 p.m.): A South African orphan leaves his Zulu village to make a life in the city, where he finds help from a formidable Indian woman.
"Chasing Ice" (Green Screen, 6:45 p.m.): Environmental photographer James Balog and a band of young adventurers amass a multiyear record of the world’s changing glaciers.
"Holy Motors" (World Cinema, 8:30 p.m., repeats 5 p.m. Sunday): A French fantasy about a man who travels between multiple lives.
"Charles Bradley: Soul of America" (Sound X Vision, 8:45 p.m.): The incredible rise to fame of a 63-year-old aspiring soul singer whose debut album took him from a hard life in the Brooklyn housing projects to Rolling Stone magazine’s top 50 album of 2011.
