Situation: Hawaii 0, Colorado State 0, 10:46 remaining, first quarter, Colorado State ball second and 10 at own 12
The Play: S Marrell Jackson meets RB Chris Nwoke at the line of scrimmage on a stretch play. Jackson knocks the ball loose and it is picked up by LB Jerrol Garcia-Williams, who runs it into the end zone.
Impact: Hawaii forces a turnover for the first time in three games and takes a lead for just the second time this season. Jackson finishes with two forced fumbles, a blocked punt and a team-high nine tackles.
Jackson: "I saw how he was holding it and went for the ball. My eyes just led me to the ball."
2. Dead Zone
Situation: Colorado State 28, Hawaii 21, 10:05 remaining, third quarter, Hawaii ball third and 1 at Colorado State 2
The Play: RB John Lister rushes for no gain, stopped by DB Conner Roggy.
Impact: Hawaii then failed to convert on fourth down, as QB Sean Schroder passed incomplete for WR Billy Ray Stutzmann. The Warriors produced no points despite starting on the 20 after another Nwoke fumble.
Lister: "It was really frustrating. When they hand you the ball on their porch, you have to take it in."
3. Reversed
Situation: Colorado State 28, Hawaii 24, 5:25 remaining, third quarter, Hawaii ball first and 10 at Colorado State 20
The Play: An official signals a touchdown as Stutzmann appears to catch a pass in the end zone from Schroeder. But after replay review the play is overturned and ruled incomplete.
Impact: Hawaii was stopped and forced to settle for a field goal, this time after getting the ball on the Colorado State 35.
Hawaii coach Norm Chow: "It was awful. It was terrible. That’s what cost us the ballgame. … We don’t take advantage. We don’t capitalize, and when we did, (the officials) called it back, which I knew they would."
4. Pick Six
Situation: Colorado State 28, Hawaii 27, 14:48 remaining, fourth quarter, Hawaii ball second and 10 at Colorado State 28
The Play: CB DeAndre Elliott intercepts Schroeder’s pass and returns it 76 yards for a touchdown.
Impact: Hawaii was moving the ball well and appeared to be on its way to regaining the lead. But this final shift in momentum put Colorado State back in control. Both teams finished with five turnovers.
Schroeder: "I checked the play. It was a bad check. It was my fault. I take full responsibility."
5. Dagger
Situation: Colorado State 35, Hawaii 27, 1:24 remaining, fourth quarter, Hawaii ball fourth and 13 at own 23
The Play: CB Jasen Oden intercepts Schroeder’s pass and returns it 40 yards for Colorado State’s second touchdown off an interception.
Impact: The play sealed Colorado State’s (2-6) first Mountain West Conference win of the season and first victory after six consecutive losses. Hawaii (1-6) fell to its fifth loss in a row and remains winless in the MWC.
Colorado State quarterback Conner Smith: "We knew it was Hawaii and we had a good shot against them."
