Fundraiser features ‘trash’ and treasures
The 31st TEMARI Trash & Treasure Fundraiser Fair will take place 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday at the Japanese Cultural Center of Hawaii’s Grand Ballroom. (JCCH and TEMARI members will be granted admission at 8 a.m.)
TEMARI, Center for Asian & Pacific Arts, promotes Asian and Pacific cultural traditions and nurtures contemporary art forms through educational programs, events and exhibitions.
This long-running fair offers treasures of new handmade works by invited local artists who often launch and make their wares available only at the annual event. Some artists also will sell their treasured personal collections of textiles, paperworks and Asia-Pacific crafts.
The event was started on the principle that "one person’s trash is another’s treasure," when TEMARI’s faculty wanted to clear their studios and give unwanted supplies to those who could use them.
For the "trash" aspect of the event, the artists will be joined by the Pacific Asian Affairs Council and Bamboo Ridge, which will present a white elephant sale on the patio.
There will also be "lucky prize" offerings every 10 minutes of wares donated by participating artists. For more information, visit www.temaricenter.org or call 536-4566.
