Police said Robertson was sitting in the northbound lane near the 107-mile marker when she was hit by a BMW sedan driven by a 50-year-old Captain Cook man at about 6:30 p.m.

The driver was not injured.

Fire Department rescue personnel took Robertson to Kona Community Hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 7:15 p.m.

Traffic Enforcement Unit officers ordered an autopsy.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call officer Larry Flowers at 326-4646, ext. 229.

The traffic fatality was the 36th on Hawaii island this year, compared with 18 at the same time last year.

A Kapaa man has died of injuries sustained in a mo-ped crash last week, Kauai County reported.

Bender was injured Oct. 24 when he lost control of his mo-ped and crashed near the junction of Hauaala and Kawaihau roads just before midnight.
