Tomorrow, we’ll just be happy with timely results
Oh, to be a fly on the wall in the rooms somewhere in Hawaii County tomorrow, where a staff of nine from the state Office of Elections will be in charge of that island’s election process. It could be interesting to watch.
Will there be drama? Will the fact that folks from big, bad Honolulu will be at the reins, trying not to let the dysfunction of the county’s primary-election operation recur, fuel home-rule resentment? Or will there be rounds of "Kumbaya" singing, everyone working in concert for the greater good?
Whatever it takes to do it well. We just want to get the vote returns out and posted on Election Day, as soon as humanly possible. It’s been a long election cycle.
The ultimate condo, with shopping downstairs
"It’ll probably be marketed as one of a kind," real estate broker Myra Brandt says of a condominium unit in a 17-story tower planned atop Nordstrom’s parking garage at Ala Moana Center, and no wonder.
Hughes Corp., says its "ultra luxury" penthouse will feature views over Ala Moana Beach Park to the ocean, high-end finishes, common-area amenities including a private dining room with a chef’s kitchen and a concierge package with shopping and dining benefits from the mall.
The asking price: $9 million, for what Hughes chief executive David Weinreb describes as "a one-of-a-kind lifestyle experience with the best luxury retail and restaurants at your doorstep." Will it be the buyer’s primary residence?
