Keala and Kan to visit Mizzou
‘Iolani’s Loxley Keala and Punahou’s Carly Kan will travel to Missouri this weekend on an official visit.
The volleyball standouts are expected to sign with the Tigers next week after they return. Kan is an outside hitter who was named the tournament’s most outstanding player as the Buffanblu won their second state crown in a row on Friday. Keala, a setter/outside hitter, was an All-State Fab 15 selection last season.
Brennan: Coaching at Kahuku is fun
He’s trying to blend into the sea of red, but it’s practically impossible for former UH quarterback Colt Brennan to avoid attention these days.
Brennan has been helping at Kahuku in recent weeks and is enjoying every minute.
“I’m not really a coach. I’m a volunteer. It’s fun,” he said. “When I was a young kid, I pictured what it would it be like if I was a coach. Who would I be? So to be 29 and know I ain’t done playing football, but you know I got some time to do some stuff. It feels good to be around the game. It feels good to work with the youth, and it feels good to teach football to the kids. And the best part is they look up and take what I say, they listen to me, that’s what I’m trying to say. It’s a good relationship to have.”
The key to playing quarterback at this level, Brennan said, isn’t necessarily physical tools.
“I think it’s more mental. I was a completely different quarterback from my senior year in high school to my junior college year. Life made me stronger mentally,” he said. “When you’re young, there’s a lot of pressure on a young kid. In regards to quarterback, people are going to talk about how big you are, how tall you are, how well you throw the football, but if you know how to get the 10 other guys on offense to play for you, to play with you, to play to win, that’s the only job a QB should really have. You got 10 guys on the same page playing to win with you, you have a good chance to win games.”
