Kahala Hotel chefs to cook the goose
Watch Kahala Hotel & Resorts chefs whip up a roast goose and a side of Brussels sprouts at the resort’s upcoming cooking class.
"Cooking the Golden Goose" features executive chef Wayne Hirabayashi and Hoku’s chef de cuisine Jeremy Shigekane, who will demonstrate the techniques it takes to create the dishes. They will also share tips along the way.
The class runs 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at Hoku’s restaurant. Cost is $70. Call 739-8760.
Food for makahiki is focus of classes
Along with the Western holiday of Thanksgiving comes the Hawaiian season of makahiki, and chef Gigi Miranda will lead a series of cooking classes focusing on healthy recipes to celebrate the season.
Each of Miranda’s classes will focus on a traditional plant — uala (sweet potato), kalo (taro), ulu (breadfruit) and niu (coconut) — plus a farmer or gardener who will share the product.
Classes run 10 a.m. to noon Saturday and Dec. 1, 8 and 15 at the Green House, 224 Pakohana St. Cost is $50 per single class or $180 for the series. Registration is required; call 524-8427 or visit thegreenhousehawaii.com.
TV chef to sign new cookbook
Home chefs will want to visit Williams-Sonoma at Ala Moana Center on Saturday when celebrity chef Aida Mollenkamp will hold a cooking demonstration and autograph session focusing on her first cookbook, "Aida Mollenkamp’s Keys to the Kitchen" ($35, Chronicle Books).
The chef will appear noon to 2 p.m. for a 30-minute demo, followed by the book signing.
Mollenkamp hosts "Ask Aida" on the Food Network and "foodCrafters" on the Cooking Channel. She also was food editor at chow.com from 2005 to 2010.
All books signed must be purchased at the store, and proof of purchase is required. Call 951-0088.
Carpaccio, gnocchi on the demo menu
