Homeless man arrested in robbery attempt
A 55-year-old homeless man was arrested in an attempted robbery of Bank of Hawaii’s Kalihi branch shortly after it opened Monday morning.
The incident occurred at about 8:45 a.m. at 1950 N. King St. Police said the man demanded money from a teller, who gave him an undisclosed sum.
Officers arrested the man just outside the front entrance of the bank at about 9 a.m., police said.
He was being held on suspicion of second-degree robbery.
Police did not provide details about how they were able to respond so quickly.
Paraglider hurt in Kahana Valley landing
Firefighters helped a paraglider hike from Kahana Valley on Monday night after he was injured during a landing.
The man in his 30s hurt his ankle at about 6 p.m. Monday, said Capt. Terry Seelig, Honolulu Fire Department spokesman. He was paragliding with two other people and told authorities his chute malfunctioned.
Firefighters helped him get to Kahana Bay where he was treated but declined to go to the hospital, the city Department of Emergency Medical Services said.
