Police chase ends in soldier’s arrest
A 40-year-old man was arrested after allegedly leading military and Honolulu police on a chase from the Aliamanu Military Reservation to East Honolulu.
Police said the incident appears to have begun as a domestic abuse case involving an Army man and his wife who both live at the Moanalua military housing area.
Military police were called to the complex at about 12:15 p.m. after the woman reported that her husband was acting suicidal and had fired two shots into the wall of their house and one each into his vehicle and another vehicle, said Dennis Drake, public information officer for U.S. Army Garrison Hawaii.
When military police arrived, the man was in his vehicle and headed toward Moanalua Freeway, Drake said.
Two other military police units, as well as HPD units, then pursued the suspect’s vehicle east on the H-1 freeway and Kalanianaole Highway.
At least two or three vehicles were hit during the chase, but no one was injured, Drake said.
A gun was found in the suspect’s vehicle when police arrested him, Drake said, but it had not been fired.
The man was taken to Tripler Army Medical Center, where he was treated, then taken to a Fort Shafter military police facility and back to Tripler, Drake said.
Honolulu police said the man is being investigated for domestic abuse, reckless endangering and first-degree criminal property damage.
Honolulu police shut down Kalanianaole Highway in both directions between Hanauma Bay and Halona Blow Hole from about 1 p.m. to just shortly before 2 p.m. as officers worked the investigation.
Drake said the man is a soldier but declined to say in which unit.

The child apparently suffered second-degree burns from the car’s catalytic converter. EMS officials said she was not hit by the car’s tires.

Man charged after standoff
Hawaii County police have charged a 33-year-old Hilo man with a variety of offenses after he was arrested Monday for allegedly threatening officers responding to a report of a trespasser at a Wainaku Street business.
Samuel J.K. Delosantos was charged Tuesday with second-degree burglary, second-degree criminal property damage and three counts of terroristic threatening. Bail was set at $10,000.
After officers responded at about 6 p.m. Monday to the trespassing report, a man repeatedly threatened the officers and charged at them while holding a shovel and a large knife, police said.
After a brief standoff, the man was arrested for terroristic threatening and on an outstanding bench warrant. Further investigation determined that he had forced his way into a building and damaged numerous items on the property, police said.
