The Shaka Santa goes snorkeling in the 2012 Christmas ornaments issued by the Friends of Honolulu City Lights.
The two new ornaments designed by Owen Ho are part of the nonprofit group’s "Holoholo Series." In line with the celebration theme "Santa’s Underwater Adventure," one of the ornaments shows St. Nick snorkeling at Hanauma Bay, and the other has him returning to his holiday home at the Honolulu Hale fountain with his snorkeling gear — and an octopus attached to his leg.
The ornaments are made from polished brass electroplated with nickel and 24-karat gold for a hard, durable finish. All proceeds from the sale of the ornaments go toward keeping the Honolulu City Lights celebration free to the public.
The 2012 Holoholo Series ornaments can be purchased for $18 at Macy’s, First Hawaiian Bank and Aloha Pacific Federal Credit Union, or ordered online at www.honolulucitylights.org for $21 each.
The monthlong Honolulu City Lights celebration will begin at 4 p.m. Saturday, with the Electric Light Parade starting at 6 p.m. and the lighting of the 50-foot tree at Honolulu Hale at 6:30 p.m.
A new feature of the Santa display by the fountain will be a purple octopus made by city artist Alex Ching.
