Savaiinaea to play in All-America game
Punahou senior Isaac Savaiinaea has been selected to play in the Under Armour All-America Football Game in St. Petersburg, Fla., on Jan. 4.
Savaiinaea is currently the No. 1 recruit in Hawaii and the No. 4 inside linebacker in the nation, according to the ESPN Top 150 rankings.
The American Family Insurance Selection Tour will formally present Savaiinaea with an honorary game jersey on Thursday at Punahou’s main gym at 8 a.m.
The Under Armour All-America Football Game will be played at Tropicana Field.
Kahuku football named best of Far West
MaxPreps ranked Kahuku as the No. 1 football program in the final Far West Regional rankings Monday.
The Red Raiders claimed the top spot ahead of Narbonne High in Harbor City, Calif., and third-ranked Vista Murrieta of Murrieta, Calif. The Far West Region encompasses nine states and the rankings are based on the MaxPreps Freeman computer ratings.
Kahuku also jumped twelve places to finish third in the nation behind DeSoto (Texas) and top-ranked Whitmer High (Toledo, Ohio). The Red Raiders finished their 12-0 season with a second consecutive state championship and seventh Division I state football title.
