» The Play: CB Mike Edwards intercepts a pass by QB Ross Metheny in the Hawaii end zone.
» Impact: Aided by Hawaii penalties, South Alabama had moved the ball effectively on its opening drive. The interception turned the momentum and South Alabama did not score until late in the fourth quarter and trailing 23-0.
» Edwards: "I kind of baited it. I didn’t think he was going to throw it, but he threw it anyway. I just made a play."

» The Play: After QB Sean Schroeder leaves the field feigning injury, RB Joey Iosefa takes a direct snap and throws a 50-yard pass to WR Billy Ray Stutzmann.
» Impact: Following Hawaii’s successful trick play so early in the game, the South Alabama defense doesn’t know what to expect throughout. Four plays later Hawaii posts the first of five unanswered scores on Sterling Jackson’s 1-yard touchdown run.
» Iosefa: "I was waiting for that moment to make the pass. It’s fun to finally get a chance to throw the ball downfield."

» The Play: LB Art Laurel stops RB Julien Valentin for a 5-yard loss.
» Impact: Forced into a passing situation, South Alabama’s promising drive stalls with an incomplete pass and then another big play by Laurel, who is credited with a sack of Metheny on an intentional grounding penalty. South Alabama punts from the Hawaii 41.
» Hawaii defensive coordinator Thom Kaumeyer: "One good thing is the guys started trusting what they’re doing and they’re playing fast."

» Situation: Hawaii 16, South Alabama 0, 10:50 remaining, third quarter, South Alabama ball, second and 10 at own 29
» The Play: Metheny completes a pass to Bryant Lavender for a long gain to UH’s side of the field. But it is called back for holding.
» Impact: This was repeated two plays later, as Metheny connected deep with Lavender but again South Alabama was called for holding and was forced to punt. Hawaii scored a touchdown on the next drive.
» South Alabama coach Joey Jones: "We go throw a couple bombs for 40 yards and we have holding calls twice. For where we are in our program we can’t make mistakes like that."

» The Play: QB C.J. Bennett throws a 3-yard touchdown pass to TE Wes Saxton.
» Impact: Hawaii missed out on its first shutout since 2005 after the defense allowed just 162 yards, including 18 rushing on 34 attempts.
