Classes canceled after fracas at school
Kealakehe High School is canceling classes today for safety reasons after a fight Thursday afternoon involving 20 to 30 students that resulted in the arrest of eight of them at the Kona campus.
No one required medical attention, Hawaii County police said.
Patrol officers were sent to the school at about 1:30 p.m. after a report of the brawl, police said. By the time officers arrived, most of the crowd had begun dispersing.
Seven male students and one female student were charged with disorderly conduct and released. The school was placed on lockdown, and all after-school activities were canceled.

Medical ailment killed victim of Kona crash
An autopsy shows that a Hawaii island man died of a medical condition Wednesday after a one-vehicle crash in South Kona, police said.
Marcus Aickin, 38, of Ocean View was driving a pickup truck north on Highway 11 shortly before 8:46 a.m. when it ran off the right side of the road and struck a tree near the 97-mile marker. He was taken to Kona Community Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 11:53 a.m. Aickin was wearing a seat belt.
Maui pedestrian dies after being struck by SUV
A 59-year-old Maui man died after being hit by an SUV while crossing a street in Kahului on Wednesday.
Maui police said the victim was crossing Kaahumanu Avenue in a marked crosswalk in front of a gas station at 6:18 p.m. when he was struck by a gray 2000 Toyota RAV4 driven by a 50-year-old Makawao resident.
The victim was taken to Maui Memorial Medical Center in critical condition where he later died. The identity of the man has not been released pending the notification of next of kin.
